Iguana Bite...

Was feeding my green iguana today, after he already started eating I put my hand in and stirred his greens around a bit, I'm not sure if he grabbed the piece of collard green I had or if he purposely went for my finger, but he got me and it hurt! lol. He's around five foot and around 8 or 9 years old...Man his teeth are sharp!
What are your guys' bite stories? :D

Ouch I'm assuming he didn't mean it. I'd imagine a 5 foot iguana could do way worse if he was trying to hurt you.

Have have had a few diff large birds and various reptiles.....

Birds: allot like people in that they see you as part of their flock (family) and because they don't have hands (and 1/2 the time we don't understand the vocalization) they use their beak to put us in check.

Regardless of if the requirement is:

I was bitten once by my Amazon but I turned around, grabbed her beak, held it tight and looked her in the eye for 15 seconds. That was six years ago and we still have an understanding. I understand I have to show respect and she understands I run the show. My wife gets a bite once a month and can never let the bird see her feet or there will be less than 10 toes...!

Reptiles: as much as I love them they are not as Psittaciformes..(from he perspective of complex emotion). Biting...?... I think its a mixture of their perception of heat and fear for their own space. We try to help too much sometimes because we see our babies...but most of the time they don't need us getting in the way.

My Green Iguana never harmed my hand because I trained her to respond to the sound of my fingernail tapping a glass dish (meant food) and I would get her running all over the place for the dinner bell. But when dinner was on I got out of the way and just enjoyed the girl for what she was...awesome!!

The part about the bird made me laugh, lol. I would love an amazon, they're amazing and so intelligent. I used to have a sun conure and a green cheeked conure and they put me in check quite a few times...Hehe. They took to men better for some reason.

As for the iguana, this is actually the first time anyone has been bitten by him and we've had him for nearly nine years, really the bite was purely my fault. He's not aggressive in any way and he never was, which I found to be pretty amazing :) He does great coming out too

Teeth are like little spades with serrated edges. They actually saw into your flesh, which is why it hurts like hell when they bite.

Iguanas have a very sharp set of teeth indeed. I made the mistake once of pulling my hand away after a bite "totally my fault" and the end result instead of small holes in a line like yours appears, was two long single cuts which looked more like deep paper cuts.

The way the blood beaded up makes it look like its individual holes, but its actually pretty much the same thing you just described, haha. I pulled my hand away too, I have a couple holes and four lines like that...One of them is quite deep! :p

i have a 3 year old jungle carpet python and she is just a B word...hasnt got me yet but she will strike the glass when my gf is near the enclosure...which is a bummer cause she is already not impressed with the snakes but she is just not a happy girl. i only got her recently from a friend who didnt have the time for her..ie why she is not user friendly hoping to work through this w her before she nails me cause im gonna just assume i may be painful!!

Oh yeah I'd put money on that bite being accidental. Not much story to my iguana bite I had a rescue 3.5 foot male when I was probably 13, he was aggressive as can be. After a long time working with him to get him comfortable around people, a week went by where he didn't try to bite me as soon as he saw my hand. And that when I had let my guard down for just a split second and well he bit me; bled like a stuck pig too. Took over a month to heal.
