Hi there forum
i am new to snakes, i have already asked some questions which i got quick and good replies to. so thanks for that.
I have yet another question. will you guys recommend 2 different pythons in 1 terrarium?
I have a female pastel Ball python, which is 500g now, and sense the cage for it now will be too small in about 6-7 month, i am thinking about getting a big enough terrarium for 2 snakes. Sense my Ball python is a puppy dog and is 100% tame and not very energetic (so she sits nice and calm in the hand. which is a good thing) i kinda feel like i would like another snake that is a little more... well... difficult. not too much. just one that has a little more energy when it's out of the cage and one that can bite if it has a bad day. (yeah i am a weird guy)
i am thinking of getting a female carpet python. do you think they will share same cage.
thanks

Cannabalism, stress, and competition for resources are good reasons NOT to house two snakes together, even of the same species.
How do you not have room for two snakes? You can stack cages on top of each other. It's very easy to make room for at least 4x2 of floor space.

No, don't do it.

ok... i'll reconsider it then.
it would just be nicer to have 1 tank rather then 2. but i have space for 2 tanks. so thats not the issue.
i have just seen some youtubers having 2 ball pythons with no problems. i have even seen one that had 4.

That in no way means that they are not having problems. I personally do not believe in cohabitation a ball python with any other snake, including other ball pythons. In my experience, the risk far outweighs the reward. They simply do better when alone.

ok i am convinced. i wont do that.
Then i'll have to get 2 tanks and place them on top of each other.
thanks for the help guys

99% of the videos on youtube are wrong.
one that can bite if it has a bad day. (yeah i am a weird guy)
thanks
You saying a ball CAN'T bite on a bad day? Trust me they can and do. However if you want a challenge go get a semi neglected retic

not saying that it can't, it's just MY Ball Python is soo much a puppy dog, and if i should get an extra snake i would like it to be something different.
I searched "neglected retic" and didn't find what you are referring to.
can you send a link?
Thanks

No snake is puppy dog tame mate, even your ball python.... if you smell like dog food a puppy wont bite, rub a rat on your hand then see how much of a puppy he is lmao.

Truthfully, no DOG is completely puppy dog tame either. Its an animal that has been domesticated for 1000s of yrs and there are still dog bites reported every single day.

Not any one case in particular just take a snake that has a nippy reputation I could have said blood or rock python and it would not have changed but then try and deal with one that has had no GOOD human interaction if you want a challenge

OP states right off the bat that they are new to keeping snakes.
Then asks about housing multiple snakes together...
And you recommend a retic or rock python or blood python (however tongue in cheek)?
It takes years to build up the knowledge base and confidence and cash to properly house a
and care for giants for the duration of their lives. If you can't make that commitment to the animal for the rest of its life, you shouldn't get it.
OP: stick the the plan of a second cage for a carpet python. dont get a retic/similar without doing A LOT of research.

Yeah judging by the size of those teeth it could puncture through at least half of my forearm(both sets combined)
I see my point was not taken, I regress

snakeman879:
As a stated i am a weird guy ^^
well i am just looking for a snake that is a little more energetic and not SOO tame as mine is.
i'll like to have both a tame snake and a snake that is a little more a challenge to handle.
Mikoh4792:
ohh myyyy GOOOOD. That is perfect. XD
Well i was also looking at a Tree Python. It's not now that i want an extra snake, but in the near future.
So i have time to think about which one it should be.

You will not like green tree pythons. They are not as energetic as ball pythons and them being aggressive snakes as a whole is a myth. Maybe biaks are an exception but its more to do with the individual snake and wild caught vs Cbb.
A good alternative to green tree pythons are carpet pythons. Active, more energy and can be quite nippy as babies(or so I've heard, I've never come across a nippy baby). And because they are both Morelia they look very similar except for color/patterning.
Just a comparison to show the similarity

yeah i was originally thinking about a carpet python. my thread was originally about putting a ball and a carpet together in the same tank. ít's properly gonna be a carpet if Tree pythons are not energetic.
Love the yellow and black color on that snake.

My Ball is "puppy dog tame", too.
And he's hissed, and bitten me.
Even the nicest of any animal can have a bad day.
