I have found a stupid mite in one of my enclosures .. pretty pist off about it ..

I have talked to many ppl and have decided to go with ibermeco or ivermeco .. dunno excacly what the nam,e is .. its someking of deworrmer for cows ..

From what I heard, its very effecient and and extremelly easy to use ..

Heres what I know about it .. IF this is true or false let me know .. I want to know for shure before i use it..

Use 1cc dissolved in 250 ml ... (keep in dark or it willl loose its effecientcy) .. Put in a spray bottle and spray the enclosure AND THE SNAKE .. supposebly it does not harm them at all - even if ingested.. In other words I can keep the substrate in and all .. How often and hoew many repitition .. this kinda worries me .. It does not seem all that safe .. what are your oppinons on it?

It is supppose to kill the mites when they eat it ..

Anyway iny info about it would be greatly apreciated.. thanks in advance

Ivermecticin on herps i s a very tricky drug, it EASILY can cause neurological damage, nad in some herps like turtles it will kill them almost all the time, is works good on cows tho!

Ivermec..

Are you sure that it is bad for snakes?? Does anyone else use it? This was the mite killer on the top on my list ..

From what I heard it could even be ingested without any problems ...

Well if anyone else has got any other oppinions please share .. so far I am inclined not to use it ..

Tks CanandaHerp for the reply!

but the one time i had mites in my anole cage o used it and then washed everytinhg down, no ill effects yet! (2 years ago) so its a GREAT mite killer and iss used an a topical mite killer sometimes, but it is harmful if the snake injests it, so it would be like soap or shampoo for us (in relation, not as a mite killer :P)

Dom,
Ivermectin was initially developed for use in cattle and horses,to treat both internal and external parasites.
It has been used in snakes and lizzards, via injection, oral, and spray form.Allthough i wouldn't recomend the first two aplications, the diluted spray seems to be relativly harmless..and works quite well..we used to use it at the zoo with no ill effects at all.
However it can cause problems in all chelonians, apparently it has the ability to cross the blood /brain barrier in tortises and aquatic turtles, causeing neurological disorder/disease.

If you choose to go with the spray method...wich i think is your best bet..mix 1/2cc of the 1% ivomec to 1 quart of tap water.
spray the cage and animal, repeat 7-10 days later if necessary.

Also frequent substrate changes and cage cleaning will also be necessary.

hope this helps.

Thanks marshell ..

Thats is the excact info I heard from others .. and of course I was going to use it as a spray.. I would not inject my snakes unless i really had too .. they've gone through enough.

Thanks again
