My ball python was in the tank in the morning but then at 3 when i got home it was gone!! How far would it go away from the tank? I dont think it could have gone far but I just cant seem to find it. Any opinions? or tricks?

Thanks!

Well i can tell you from experience they can disappear in less then an hour mine got hungry and turned up by my rat cage which if you don't have rats probably wont help you...but just tear everything apart and if they could still be in that room close the door

Blast the AC and put a few hides in dark corners of the room on top of heat mats. These snakes see heat.

I keep my snakes in a plain room with the door shut at A.L.L times for this reason. I did have one escape so far, but found my little Ball Python within the hour. Check in corners and put out a few hides with heat as suggested. Wherever you've looked, look again! I checked in a corner under a laundry bucket, wasn't there, checked the same spot 30 minutes later, and there he was..

I guess im sort of lucky, my BP lives in part of the open area of a repurposed/rebuilt table I constructed into an open air snake enclosure. Mine stays in her area until she gets bored, or hungry and occasionally wanders onto the floor, but she always stays close. Never had a problem like that.

I do find that when mine escapes she hides in small spaces like behind boxes, under the stairwell in an old shell of a computer case, sometimes behind my old tv, a lot of places but most of them are in corners or dark areas with very little space mine always seems to stay close to me though.

How doyou keep temps and humidity levels in an open air enclosure??

By sacrificing my own personal luxury. Big humidifier + 250 watt heat lamps. It's going to be a challenge to keep the configuration straight in the winter but doable. With the humidifier off it sits at about 50%~ Got her to feed a few times now so she's doing a lot better than the apparent condition I got her in from the pet shop. Even in September here, in my house rise from 80-90 degrees ambient temp pretty easily. She's escaped her enclosure a few times during her escapades at her. But more often than not she's in the several hides I keep for her in my room.

I am intrigued, can we see some pictures of the whole set up and how it works for you?

You even got it to eat a few times?! Oh wow! You're the epitome of ball python keeping! Please, tell me more!

If you kept it properly it would eat every time already. Sometimes a "rescue" needs to be "rescued" from the "rescue".

Lol what's your problem? He's just saying that he got the snake to start eating after taking it from worse conditions.

Spiked butt plug.

He's right though. This is a really dumb way to keep BPs

He said he got it to feed a few times, he didn't say he tried numerous times and it only ate a few. Maybe he had it for a few weeks, it ate a few times...

Don't think the open enclosure is a great idea either, but the tone in mykees comment was a bit excessive...

He's hilarious that's what his problem is.

Worse conditions? I'd say it's on par really.
