So i needed to get some dog food today, so i went to one of the big pet stores today to get the feed for my dog and i thought i would get a mouse for my brb. The small pet store normal lets me pic one out but here the just went to the back and grabbed one. So i get home and look at the mouse and think this is to big for my brb. So i think ill try to see in my boa will eat even tho its about to shed. Bam strikes for it but nail the side of the cage so i thought i would wait and see if he would eat it. But i came apparent to me that the snake was in more of a defenseive mode as he struck the mouse but then did not constrict. So i thought i would grab the mouse out but with toungs i would have by hand but this snake was very up set . Well he started to hiss real loud and was trying to strike me and anything around as i was setting his hides back in and what not. he was a really good snake and i know shedding can make them not want to eat and easly aggravated . But do you think this traumatized my snake is he going to feel unsafe in his enclosure? Should i move him to his new one sooner than i was planing on?

So anyways i feed the mouse to my brb judging buy the bump do you think this mouse was to big normal you can't or can barely notice the snake ate.

It'll be OK. Yeah there's a feed bump on it but if you leave it alone for a couple of days and give it a chance to process this "bigger than normal" meal, the feed bump will go down, if nothing else, this will just give your snake more fuel to grow on. :)

Just don't annoy the snake and it will be fine.

I see nothing wrong with a lump that size.

Yeah i agree with Terranaut, I've made even bigger bumps in my snakes with no issues whatsoever.

Hey thanks guys. Yeah i was a little more worried about my boa constrictor and how aggressive he was acting.

Meal isn't too big. Next time wait until after it has shed before feeding. Skipping a week wont hurt it.

Yep...totally ruined your boa. But, I guess you could go ahead and send it to me. I suppose I'd take a ruined boa just to ease your mind a bit :)

Hahahahaha yeah i will take your ruined boa off your hands too. but anyway if you want to keep that ruined boa i would give it 48 hours at least to digest without handling. And its not uncommon for some boas to be a bit pissy in shed just use slow movement if you handle him/her while they are shedding

I've always wanted a ruined boa.

Jokes aside, you are worrying too much. If you think that would traumatize a snake, then every snake in the wild must be traumatized.

The brb is the one that ended up eating the mouse. My boa constrictor is the one that was trying to fight and hiss and bite everything and is in a shed. He seems alot calmer already as he is ontop of his hide getting some heat.

well with the brb give him that time to digest. and for the red tail slow movement while in shed, my girl use to get kinda pissy in shed and hiss and strike but after she got use to me and i was extremely gentle with her. also make sure its enclosure is warm enough because a cold snake is a mean snake.

My boas are very defensive when they are in blue and almost blind. Then after they go rigjt back to normal. Don't worry. I didn't comment on it because it was normal and healthy and the longer your a boa keeper the more you will understand your snake.

Mine got me a few days ago, and I didn't understand why, but I just noticed his eyes are blue now. It's perfectly normal for them to get grumpy when they shed. As everyone else said... I could take your Boa, if you think he's ruined ;)

lol those bite marks will get worse as your boa grows older. Appreciate them now! When i got bit by my 7 footer it wasn't pretty.

That was the first thing that popped into my mind! I was just thinking about when this little sucker gets bigger, I hope he mellows out. It didn't hurt. I was looking up at someone, and hardly felt that I had been bitten, looked down, and saw a little blood. I was only demonstratimg that it's normal while they're shedding. I had a 3' - 4' GTP get nippy with me, and had a close call with a BIG FAT Blood! (Like 5', and 8" round) at an Expo. He was pretty slow so I got away from him. Didn't get as lucky with the GTP... Luckily he was in the hand he bit, so I didn't accidently jerk away! This is going to sound weird, but I actually like being bitten. It helps me know what to expect. Not going to lie... If I could be bitten by the GTP again, I would definitely pass, but so far I haven't had any bites that were too bad but the GTP bite definitely wasn't comfy at the time.

I don't know what to expect if I ever get bitten by my gtp. Could you describe what it was like? the level of pain?

Idk, honestly. It was on the 17th and I figured that it wouldn't feel that bad if I didn't make a huge deal about it, so I didn't. Wasn't comfortable, and I didn't like it, but I am not like traumatized or anything. He got the top of my hand, which is filled with veins, and pressure points, so that may explain why it sucked, but I really tried to just block it out. Out of all the pain I've felt in my life, I'd say it was 5 out of 10. Out of the snake bites I've had, it was the worst (since I haven't been bitten a whole lot). I think the guys who owned him felt worse than I did lol

I have been bit a lot recently by my collection, including a 5' male around 5 pounds. He was the worst by far and he was maybe a 2 on a scale of 1-10.

Have you been bitten by a GTP before? I am wondering if a 3-4 ft GTP's bite would be worse than a large BCI's bite.

Lol i got bit by my brb the other day and he is in shed now. I was texting on my phone and had him in my hand and he gave me a hit did not hang on and did not draw blood but i could fill where one on his fangs sunk in. Ive have been bit a few times when i was a little kid by pet and wild snakes not bad just can give you a good adrenaline rush. I feed the boa today sorry never took any more pics he was very sensitive as after he killed his food he was trying to strike me so i cover the cage with a blanket and took my dog for a walk so the vibrations of me being around wouldn't bother him.
