I have heard different places of people feeding chicken legs to Retics and Burms. I was wondering if anyone here had tried this?

It's not whole prey.. Therefore it should not be fed.

Whoever feeds their burms and retics PARTS of a animal instead of WHOLE animals should not be keeping snakes.

I saw a lecture on boa constrictors at Repticon here in Ft Lauderdale, and the lecturer was talking about giving occasional chicken legs to his snakes. He recommended it for occasional feedings. I can't confirm or deny how good it is for the snakes, but he was pretty convincing.

I've had to resort to feeding mine chicken due to economic restraints and the loss of a breeding population of feeders. I have to agree with the above posts. I don't see any harm in occasional feedings, but don't think it would be good long-term. Like feeding your kids pizza and ice cream.

Not on a regular basis, but the legs could be stuffed with reptile vitamins. I don't see a problem.

Some of the leaders in herpetology feed their snakes other kinds food other than whole prey items. William Haast and Kathy Love to name a few. I have personally done a over 20 year study on feeding non eating snakes a mixture of foods, which has proven to show they can grow healthy without eating whole prey. Until you have studied the situation, it is kind of harsh to say that if people don't feed their snakes like you do they should not be allowed to keep them. There are many ways to the same result, one not necessarily being better than the other.

I feeds some of my snakes chicken legs or necks occasionally. I would only recommend feeding chicken parts as a supplement. I see nothing wrong with providing a little variety to a snake that is already a good feeder. My old world rats go crazy for the chicken necks. So is there anything wrong with a chicken leg or something every couple months? I personally think no. Just my two cents.

This method is popular over here due to the fact that most people don't have access to rodents any bigger than adult mice. One reason why I breed my own. :)

I have done it before, one mouse some chicken necks then another mouse to keep it all together. Chicken piece feces is not something you'd want to deal with.
