I put my probes inside the enclosure, directly above the mat (mat is outside) alongside a tempreture probe from a thermometer, some people attach the probe directly to the mat on the outside of the enclosure, this is a good idea for larger snakes

I put it on the inside in the center of my uth, I just use some heat proof tape to hold it down so it doesn't move

Was thinking of puting the probe on top of the heatmat but my heat lamp is directly above so the heat of the lamp would shut the thermostat off or am I wrong ? Would mounting the uth on the side of the viv be eny good for a bci ? Dont think it will but after eny help thank u for ur help so far

yes it will switch off if it heats to the right tempreture, regardless of where the heat is coming from - but thats what you want, if the UTH continues heating when the right tempreture has been reached, it will over heat...
no point putting it on the side unless you want it to heat the air, rather than as a basking spot

Currently in most of my cages I have the probe taped directly on the heat mat and set it to a temperature that will give me the desired hotspot inside the cage. In my glass tanks I have the probe inside the cage in the basking spot but I will be moving those snakes out into plastic caging soon.

Just got my new habbystat dimmer stat I have put the probe in the middle of my viv on the ground the thermomiter reads a steady 29.1c. The viv is 4ft long is that ok? My thinking is that this provides 3 diffrent temps for my boa to pick were she wants to be
I put mine directly on the hot side taping it to the inside under the aspen. If you put it in the middle and have the temp set for whatever you feel the middle or ambient temp should be the side with the heat source could get to un godly temps to make the middle air the temp you set it too, under stand?? It has to be measured at the heat source to avoid that :) if you don't fixate the probe to a surface the animal can move it around and you wouldn't come home to a over heated or under heated animal

Mine are on the outside, taped to the Flexwatt. Thermometer probe on the inside under the substrate. I also set the thermostat to whatever I need to get the desired temp on the inside.

I hav my heat mat directly under my heat lamp so if I fix it there wont the heat from my matt affect it??

What do you mean by the heat mat affecting it?

Sorry just thot what I said dident make sence to me ether lol. Was thinking if I put my probe on top of my heat mat that the heat from my matt would dim the light but it wouldent cos only the plug for my lamp is conected to the dimmer so just a dumb thing to say I guess my bad lol

Tape in the viv with the snake is not a good idea
How so? It's been a year and they're fine. The tape doesn't come off if that's what you're assuming

It is all fine until the tape DOES come off and the snake gets stuck to it...........
Here's a post on another forum I go on taken from a reptile magazine showing what can happen when a snake comes into contact with sticky tape

Everything is OK to do until it goes wrong, for me just not worth the risk.

Seen a snake skin it's self alive after get stuck to the duct tape use to hold its lid down. Poor thing had to be put down. that why i never use or even allow tape in my snake room.
