Okay so here it goes...

Nothing is 100% yet but it is possible that Enzo escaped his cage last night... The last time I saw him was around 8pm last night and now I can't find him anywhere! I didn't look for him today at all because he usually burrows all day and I never see him until night time.

Anyway, the situation: He is in a 20 gallon aquarium with locks on the lid. However, I just got him a new tree that I put in the corner next to the thermometer mounted on the wall. I am thinking it is possible that he could've used them to get up to the edge of the cage and maybe could've squeezed between the edge of the cage and lid but he definitely would've had to push pretty hard to get out... Here is what I'm talking about... http://i.imgur.com/NVs6Pgj.jpg
To make this space, however, I was lifting pretty hard on the cage and I know they're strong but I don't know if he could've figured that out! Also, we have seen him climb around the edge before and he hasn't ever TRIED to escape-- such as this (bad photo quality, sorry!), taken about a week ago and I suspected he was doing it because he was too hot so I have since gotten a dimmer for his lamp and we haven't noticed him climbing like that since that night...

On the other hand, when I added the new tree to his cage, I laid another fake log down that usually stood upright (the one in the middle). http://i.imgur.com/rFuvaKN.jpg
This (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752670&lmdn=Habitats+%26amp%3Bamp%3B+Accessories&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo) is the exact one... sorry the pic is dark.
I looked all over it and there are some air holes and one in particular that he may have been able to squeeze through... I tried listening really closely and didn't hear anything suspicious so if he is in there, he's being very sneaky!

I guess after all this I'm just trying to figure out what to do next or if it is even possible he got out. I searched my entire room in all the low, dark spots I could think of and found nothing. Right now, I'm just waiting because usually he comes out to explore once the room is dark so if he is in the log, maybe he will come out? I don't know... :/ it's taking a lot of will power to keep myself from just (carefully) cutting that log into pieces to find out if he really is in there.

My guess is he is in the log, if there is any tiny holes in it whatsover. They are completely hollow inside, I have a broken one.

Yeah I have looked ALL OVER in my room, even in the box spring and everything and nothing so far... If I haven't found him by tomorrow evening, I am cutting that log open. -_- this is so frustrating... the log may have to be cut open tonight so I can actually sleep...

Darn! Check the log! Hope you find him!

I shook the log up a good bit. Hopefully he will decide it isn't such a fun place after all and leave. haha if I don't find him in his cage by tomorrow evening, my boyfriend and I are going to cut open the log... :/ It is just too coincidental because before we tipped the log on its side last night, that larger, suspect hole was at the very top so he probably hadn't seen it yet. With the log on its side, that hole was ground level and perfect for a curious little kingsnake... I will keep updating y'all as the search continues! For now, the log is back in the locked cage and I will check for him again in the morning. :) Thanks for the advice so far! I really hope he is in the darn log after all this...

I have that same tree hide and when I got it, my king disapeared and I found it hiding on the top inside of it. and so if you lift it up, they won't fall out, so try giving a good look inside that hide

That's what I'm thinking at this point! The search will continue tomorrow!

I have that same tree hide and my MBK will often curl up inside the small hole near the top. Its almost impossible to get her out so I just let her stay in there. She's getting bigger now and soon she won't be able to squeeze in there. I've also got the same large tree and my Cal King will actually clear out the bedding and hide underneath that one. I will say if I thought one of my snakes was missing I don't think I could wait to start searching for them. Let us know when you find Enzo. Good luck.

Had to cut it into 3 pieces but I found him... Sneaky little guy. I'm just going to let him keep that part hahahaha since he apparently likes it so much. http://i.imgur.com/zBIIE52.jpg

Thanks for all the advice/help guys :) I really appreciate it!

I should've known! I really knew deep down that he couldn't have escaped but the hole he went through to get into this log was soooo small, I really didn't believe he could fit! Proved me wrong, that's for sure!

Well, how's Enzo? :)

He's great! :) Fed him on Monday so I'm giving him some down time but I will probably get him out tomorrow for some socializing. He runs when I go in the cage to get him but once he is out, he relaxes- hasn't tried to bite or even musk since I've had him. However, I eventually hope to get to where he doesn't run and hide even when I go to get him out initially so I try to handle him frequently. :) I will probably take more pictures too of course! :D

Thanks! :) I'm very glad I found him too! We had quite the scare!

And this is why all hides should have an open bottom, side or a way to remove the top so this type of thing doesn't happen.

You should always have access to the snake.

Yeah I completely agree! My other two hides are completely open on at least 1 side and I just didn't even realize that one of the air holes on this decoration was big enough for him to get into since the other 3 are much smaller... I will definitely make sure that he is accessible in any other hides I purchase in the future! :)
