So, my Sharp Sunglow girl dropped her litter on August 1. The results were both sad, and curious at the same time.
4 live babies. And a bunch of slugs. Interesting thing was that three of the babies were visual Sharp Albinos. From a Motley 100%het Anery x Sharp Sunglow pairing.... thus determining that those three babies were born from parthenogenesis.
Here is a definite Sharp Sunglow (top), and what I believe is a Sharp Sunglow on the bottom, as you can tell from the clean back between the saddles. But it doesn't carry the typical orange colouration of Sharp Sunglows. Could be a result of the partho, but really I don't know. But she is gorgeous and purplely in person!

There was also a Sharp Albino but sadly she passed shortly after birth.
Now, this isn't a straight partho litter because I also got this little one! My pride and joy, my GEM if you will.... a Hypo Motley 100%het Sharp Albino/50%het Anery!

Congrats on the ones that made it. You have some real lookers there. It be interesting to see how the one colors up.
Theres not chance the mot could have been a ph?? Or has the sunglow ever been paired but didnt take could have been a sperm retention. The whole partho thing really interest me!!
The hypo mot held a very decent pattern!! Congrats on the babes!

Thanks guys!
The breeder who I bought my Motley from purchased the father to him in 2007 from Jeremy Stone for $4000. Jeremy wasn't working with Sharp Albino back then, and even if there was a 25% chance that the Motley would have been het Sharp Albino the price would have been much much higher.
And I've raised this girl from a baby and this was her first year being paired. Only male near her the entire time was the Motley het Anery.

Oh ok Just checking :D
The sharps have an interesting pattern. Not motley but unique.

Sure... if you agree to being called Cupcake. You're Cupcake, or Cuppy for short. Darryl is Muffin, or Muff Muff for short (guess that's longer actually...) and I'm Percival, or Percy or CHOCOLATE THUNDER for short.

Uhhh for reasons that can't be mentioned here I don't think I can be called cupcake....
I usually get called "Costanza" if you're a Seinfeld fan.

Hell no! His nickname is Gary and mykee's is Ace. You can't go changing that now.
As for the pathos I don't think it's been proven in boas. Do you still have the dead babies? I know a guy deep into the study of it.

I'm pretty sure Warren Booth has proven partho in boas. I know of quite a few guys who have had parto happen to them as well. Mitch Kranz (Better Boa), Greg Heckbert (Heckbert Reptiles) and Jeremy Stone has had quite a few Motley pairings result in a couple of Super Motleys when the female was a Motley (male was NOT a Motley).
Rob
Gorgeous snakes! and interesting commentary as well.....

I was under the impression that parthogenesis was unconfirmed in boas. Sorry about that.

Did those super motleys prove out to be actual super motleys? What I mean is, it wasn't the whole "null gene" thing was it?
I could be messing terms up though.

They couldn't have been proven, dude. Super Motleys don't live that long.

Does the 'partho' only occur when there is a successful breeding with a male and is called partho because it shows a phenotype only possible by receiving genes exclusively from mom (like the one discussed here) or is has it been observed in females with no contact with males? If its the first one, is it still considered truly parthenogensis?

From firsthand experience I don't know enough to answer with a nice neatly wrapped scientific answer.
I do know that Greg Heckbert had a virgin female just give birth though. And I have seen the resulting offspring.
In this case it's Partho because the 3 babies are displaying the Sharp Albino gene (2 Sharp Sunglows, 1 Sharp Albino). Since I traced it all the way back and had found NO Sharp Albino introduced within my bloodline while in captivity, I would assume it's Partho. Now... maybe the original WC Motley was a result of a Motley x Sharp Albino in the wild, and throughout the years the gene was passed on to select offspring. Like a 1 in a million shot, but perhaps. Partho is the best explanation.
