Hi, I just joined today, after a few weeks of reading to do research to get my first snake. I went with a Ball Python, because they seem to be the most docile. What do you guys think of ball pythons?

I love the information I was able to find about them from the other members, Thank you :)

Welcome!

To answer your question, I find ball pythons to be the most mundane and boring snake species, but that is my opinion.

There are many more snakes that can be just as docile and easy to keep.

I loooove my pet rocks!

I fell less bad than watching active animals slither around in circles.

Ball pythons are nice pets to have. None of mine are pet rocks.

Ball pythons make great beginner snakes as long as you are prepared to make the enclosure work for you rather than against. Too many people get one and put it in a fish tank wondering why the humidity is too low.

A tub or a vivarium and you are golden :)

Welcome.

I wouldn't ever recommend a king snake or a hognose for a beginner.

Any particular reason why? The hognose I can understand, but my Cali King is very easy to care for, tolerates being handled, and eats his f/t feeders like clockwork.

Mostly because kings can be so food aggressive. If your first experience is with a food crazy king you may just be turned off.

Thank you :) I got to feed her for the first time today. It was fascinating. I assume she is doing okay if I was able to get her to eat with no problem.

Welcome, I love ball pythons, but my all time fav is boas I like big snakes, if you get my point ;D haha. I tho have abit of everything, balls, boas, corns, carpets, GTPs, burms, Kings so I guess I just pick what is pretty but my main breeding or must snakes I have is balls, I think I got 25+ I dont count anymore lol

I agree with everyone else... it's a preference thing. I love some of the BP morphs for their beauty but won't likely own more than the one I have. There are so many interesting species out there... I'd rather use my time, energy, and monetary resources having a more varied collection. Just my opinion.

Ah, that would be my MBK. Fortunately she's small enough that when she does end up biting it's merely annoying.

that is why I use a tong, because most of my snakes are very good at hitting my hand, for no reason, lol not scared, but rather be, without a fun bite :p
