There are some beautiful hots, but I'm not sure I'd ever want to own one!

I'm lovin the coach whip. Those eyes are piercing. How do you go about handling a spitting cobra? Just regular precautions and a pair of shades?

Full face shield and Hex Armor Gloves. I have cuts on my hands, so I want to protect them from any sprayed venom. But the number one way to protect yourself is to not make him angry enough to spit at you.
Where did you get your Hex Armor gloves? I'am aware of the venom defenders but there seems to be no US supplier of those. Great pickups BTW wish I could have made it.

There's people putting ads up on craigslist in my area for albino wdb's all the time, I've always considered one later on since they're legal in CA but after seeing the damage they can do I don't think I'll ever get one or any hot.

I personally think the majority of people should avoid keeping them. For that matter I think many of the "experienced" community and some of the big names shouldn't either. See too many taking unnecessary risk and becoming complacent and confusing it for skill and experience.
You can keep hots without essentially ever having to handle them if you so choose and utilize some common sense and the correct tools and items. I know someone with a WDB that has had it for 6 years and not once ever had to even use hooks with it. I choose to use hooks with some of mine but have never tailed one, there is no need.
Getting them as a "pet", because they are cool, to show them off, adrenaline rush or any reasons like that is the wrong idea to get them IMO.

I believe that Hex Armor and Venom Defender are the same thing. I got my gloves from Tongs.com. The sell and make professional snake handling equipment. I can safely say that the gloves work. I have had large Retics and venomous chew and hit them hard and never has a tooth made it threw.

Oh ok, never noticed they carried those. I get hooks and other things from them often and have a pair of the thick leather/kevlar gloves they sale but seems the Hex Armor/Venom Defenders are a step better. I enjoy having every little bit of safety I can get lol. Thanks!

I'd think the safest way would just not to own one :D
Kidding aside. Cool stuff.

Owner of a local place lost his finger to one, but they still breed them although I'm not sure if they even sell them because they never have posted them anywhere or put the babies on display from my knowledge.
Another guy keeps two and I think he said he was hand taming them.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has decided that a license is not needed to collect rattlesnakes. This is probably for the benefit of someone who feels that they need to kill a rattlesnake on their property in order to protect themself, their family, or their animals. This might seem to encourage the unnecessary killing of rattlesnakes, however these people are most likely unaware that they would need a license to kill a snake anyway.
The CDFW has also just added rattlesnakes to the list of collectible species, stating that bag and possession limits do apply, except for one species which is protecting from all collection.
Completely legal, I see them on Craigslist in the central valley often. From what I've read only Albino WDB's are legal to sell but you could go out and collect a normal yourself or get one from a breeder if it's without charge. They must also be native to California or you need a permit.
Family Crotalidae -Pit Vipers: All species (D), except Crotalus viridis (Western rattlesnake), Crotalus atrox (Western diamondback rattlesnake), Crotalus ruber (red diamondback rattlesnake), Crotalus scutulatus (Mojave rattlesnake), Crotalus mitchelli (speckled rattlesnake) and Crotalus cerastes (Sidewinder) not restricted.

I own HexArmor gloves too...I got mine from a medical supply company. They are the same thing, except that HexArmor markets to the medical community (i.e. people that deal with biological sharps) and VenomDefender markets to venomous snake keepers. VenomDefender gloves are about 250 pounds, or $500 USD or so. HexArmors will run you $130-160 for the Hercules NSR (Needlestick, tear, puncture resistant gauntlet gloves).
