Hey all !
Found this site the other day and was instantly hooked with all the great info and threads pertaining to snakes ! Especially when I found myself in a mad dash to get info , adopting this 7 1/2' red tailed boa !
It's been almost a month and after a bit of meds. and care,..the snake is doing better, getting over a case of Mouth Rott.
More pics on the way :)

I do have a couple questions that I have yet to find the answers too reading care sheets, threads, or web sites.........
1.) Why is it this snake has completly black eyes, I don't see a slit pupil like other red tailed boas ?
2.) this snake seems much darker and subdued in coloring. I am to assume this snake is your typical COMMON BOA,.. definitely not a surinam, or guyana red tailed boa. Is this correct ?
~ thanks in advance ~~
carlos
I'm not sure about the eyes, and would be interested to know what others think!
Nope, she's not a suranim or guyana (which are true red-tails, Boa Constrictor Constrictor)... she's a "common" or "colombian" red-tail (Boa Constrictor Imperiator). The pics are dark, but she does look fairly dark even for a common. BCIs can go from pale (the snake in my avatar is pretty light) to very dark.

Congrats on the new addition! Glad she's coming along well for you :) I'd definitely say she's a Colombian Boa (BCI), not a Redtailed boa (BCC). BCI (as with many species of snake) can be extremely variable in colour and pattern. As for eyes, I have seen a few BCI that have appeared to have black eyes, have you tried holding her up to a light? Maybe in the bathroom or where ever it is fairly bright in your house? You'll find she does have a pupil in there, but just has naturally dark eyes.

The top pic of the snake with the mouth open is one of the first pics I had of the snake when she arrived.
She was "some kind of BUSTED up" when I got her. Mouth rott, and RI, retained eye caps and not eating well. The meds and heat are bringing her back to the land of the SLITHERING, so keeping fingers crossed :D

--- I have no bias against this bigger snake, and jumped at the opportunity to take ownership. Granted the small babies of what ever red tailed species are easier to handle,... ( lighter and not as difficult to remove from table legs, furniture, or unfortunate younger siblings)
- But she's just a big 7 foot easy going gal , that has never given me trouble. I like the shock appeal of a BIG snake when company visits, and to me ... this is the size that appeals to me. :p

I think I'll give it a shot when she recovers from her ailments, let some time elapse and I can locate another snake owner in my area. Those gooey, mass blobs, of live snake babies just born loooooooooook wicked ! :bugged:
Great job, looks like you are doing well with her.
