View Full Version : is my corn snake ready for bigger mice?

Hi. I have a corn snake and it'd be A LOT easier if he'd take adult mice. My Ball python destroys adult mice and I buy five weeks worth at my local pet store every five weeks. Buying hoppers and adult mice is doable but it'd be easier to buy 10 adult mice and feed each snake for five weeks. Think he's big enough for an adult mouse? I can take a picture of him next to an adult mouse if that helps.

The pic would obviously help. We have to see it to tell you.

Does a hopper leave a bulge or can you not even see it after it eats it?

You can see it if you look closely.

If the bulge is that small I'd say your corn is ready to be eating adult mice.

Well uhh... ran into a problem when I saw trying to grab him for a pic... put pvc in his terrarium a little while ago to see if he'd use it... he's using it.. and won't come out lol
Btw.. I am not holding him sideways... the pic.was rotated for some reason.

Thanks. You think he'd try to eat a.mouse that's too big if I offered it? Animals know their limits so idk... I think he'd be smarter than that.

If you are unsure, feed him 2 hoppers.

My pet store only sells frozen adults. I don't like feeding my snakes live. All the hoppers they have are live :/ that's why I'd like to get him on adult mice, if I can

Adult mice are probably 1.5x the size of his body.

They will be fine then. I feed my adult corn rats but much less regularly, from memory the rats are 125-150g

Is there a petsmart around you? Hopper to adult is a two size diffrence. I'm sure it would be ok, I just wouldn't do it personally

It's about an hour away in a car. And I take the bus... :/ and I am no longer going to pet smart.. I am not getting into that right now, though.

150g? That seems pretty big! I will offer an adult mouse. I personally think he'll be just fine.

He is an almost five foot approx six year old adult and he only gets one every three to four weeks, sometimes longer if he starts bulking up.

Nice :) I bet he's nice and fat! Would love to know his weight if you ever weigh him :)

I was feeding my yearlings small adults.
Are you not going to PetsMart because of the Ball python thing? Because a frozen mouse is a frozen mouse....the hour by car thing is a diff issue entirely. ANYTHING that PetsMart says about reptiles should be considered as sketchy. However, if all you're doing is buying Arctic Mice....It's all about working smarter, not harder.
If it's a different issue, then disregard the above :)

Goto this website FaunaClassifieds Home Page (http://www.faunaclassifieds.com)
Look up rodent suppliers and find one in your area. Do not buy mice from petsmart.
Why are you feeding a ball python mice?

How many threads can this kid make in one day?
First- switch python to rat pups
Second- Feed the corn snake adults if it's big enough. Hell feed it a rat. Idc
Third- Stop trolling the pet store. They don't know how to sex them. So what? Buy a ball from a effing real reputable breeder.
Fourth- You should have just one thread where all of these sub-threads go.

He was fat when we got him but not any more, he is solid muscle.
The guy previous was feeding him three adult mice every week and he had fat deposits easily visible, they are now gone but wwe keep an eye on him

No. They are one of the more expensive pet stores to buy rodents from here. Thats why I'd rather not buy from them.

In general, snakes are capable of taking items much wider than themselves. I'd say go for it! :)
