Rex is eating a common house gecko. He will not eat pinkies or anything but geckos. He has gone off food for 2 months because he refuses pinkies. I have read online that it is ok to feed geckos. I only do this for his needs and wants. This is the 2nd time feeding him geckos and he loves them!! He strikes as soon as he sees it!! Please ignore the fact that he was bitten.. Not a mark was left due to the weak bite. Thanks for watching and reading this!

It might not be you Rex. If you just uploaded the video Youtube gives you a temporary code until it processes.

Why are you feeding it gecko's? And live ones at that? A gecko could do a lot of damage to your corn.

Kids commentary is always the best.

I have never fed geckos before so I can't comment on that ..
(Is there ever such a thing as frozen geckos?)
It doesn't look like if left much of a bulge though...
I would still try to get it feeding on mice. You can adjust the size as needed, and I believe in the long run it will save you money (correct me if I am wrong) Perhaps try putting the snake in a smaller container with the thawed mouse and keep it in the enclosure the snake is accustomed to.

That gecko looked too small to do any real damage. A mouse that size would be more dangerous.

I have tried everything you have suggested.. But thanks. He doesn't ever seem interested in them.. If he eats it he regurgitates it!! Any suggestion? (I'm talking about pinkies)

He bite my snake but no mark was left.. It was a baby gecko and it was barley able to bite him! He moves so much faster after feeding him geckos. They have more protein and softer bones than pinkies making it easy for him to digest it!!

Dude. Your snake isn't regurgitating because the pinkies are hard to digest. Something else is definitely wrong and you need to find out what.

I would also check your gecko suppliers as wc lizards are full of parasites.

How old is your snake? Two months is a little long for a snake that's only on pinkies.

I haven't watched the video but I think you should check your setup. Seems pretty odd that it stopped eating month after you got it.

The way it went for that, I would think it would just about eat anything soon as it moved it struck, coiled and rolled. Do you always feed in a separate tank?

Yeah, what are your temps, humidity, how many hides do you have, and enclosure size?

Who knew geckos were native to New Jersey and that corn snakes ate them in the wild there?

You should feed live mouse pinks.

Also take the next poop to the vet for a fecal exam. Geckos are not captive bred (that species) and may carry parasites as mentioned already.

Then it's something you did. Who told you gecko's have more protein? Also, why would you want your prey item to have softer bones? If the prey has a more developed skeletal system it will gain much more nutrition. Have you ever felt how soft and malleable a pink it?

What should I do? He won't eat pinkies!! Is there anyway he will?

You may be able to get the guys started with a live small peach fuzzy. It will move around a little more than a pinky, and your guys looks like he is not adverse to striking at prey.

Just don't offer anything but pinkies. The snake can go a long while without food. Eventually it will eat.

Put a pink in his cage over night "he is nocturnal" and see if it is there in the morning with nobody watching.

Do you have any reason for it to come out? Are you using a heat lamp? Mine comes out and basks all the time.

Throw a basking spot in the mix. Corns are diurnal I believe... you should see a decent amount of activity throughout the day.

Tbh I have no clue if corns are labled as nocturnal or diurnal. I was always under the impression that they were nocturnal. There are other animals that are considered to be "nocturnal" but still come out during the day like cats. Maybe its the same with corns.

Corns are actual dirunal and if I remember correctly they physically hunt as opposed to just wait in ambush.

There is part of the problem .. Try finding a different store. Not only are their mice HORRIBLY over priced - but I know of several people who have bought reptiles (especially anoles/geckos) with mites. I do not live in Texas, but I have been several times and found quite a few pet-stores.

That's weird. My corn acts like a nocturnal snake. I have never seen it once come out during the day. It will always come out at night hunting for food.

Not at all. My boa is 14in. and can eat a regular/large hopper.
Granted .. Sand boas are a bit thicker than corn snakes but not enough to make that much of a difference. I would push for larger (with in reason.) rather than smaller.

Granted, there is no answer all for feeding. What works for my snake may not work for yours .. but I think a fuzzy would be more of an appropriate size than a pinky.
