i got a UTH and 2 spots on my tank and i works fine for me
The tank is 39x15x15 (well something like that anyway). It is housing 1.1 Emperor scorpions.

I suggest a spot light only if your room is below room temperature. They don't need excessive heat. The reason I suggest a spot light is that burrowing animals do so for 2 main reason. Self preservation (hide from predators)and to get away from the hot sun. If you put a UTH your are defeating the purpose of the scorpion wanting to get away from heat. They will be digging toward heat while trying to get away from it. I hope everybody is getting this. I also suggest the same for reptiles. All you need for reptiles is a rock placed under the spot light so the repltile in question can bask. Hope this helps.

With scorpions an under tank hetaing mat must NEVER be used. As was mentioned above, most scorpions burrow to avoid heat, so they will actualy become hotter the further they go.

I use a ceramic heat bulb in a reflector. There are different wattages to suit your size of tank. I place this on the steel mesh at the top of the cage and the temperature is guided by a pulse proportional thermostat. It is essential a thermostat is used with all bulbs. The ideal temp range for emperors (Pandinus imperator) is 25-30*C
