SCALES Zoo will be hosting the HISS in the Hills mothers day weekend May 10 and 11, 2003. It is a meeting of the executive and members of HISS (Herp Information Society of Sask) to travel to private land where we have special permission to visit the winter densites. The spring count coincides with the emergence of the rattlers and bullsnakes from the dens for the summer season. Last year's count yielded 60 prairie rattlers, 28 bullsnakes and at least a hundred black widow spiders.
Registration fees include meals and lodging. We are located in a remote area - no airport or bus service - but transportation will be arranged from Medicine Hat, AB or Saskatoon, SK for those wishing to see and photo the snakes.
