I'm Anne. I found a beautiful albino tangerine Honduran milk snake in my driveway last year. He was such a nice snake and a wonderful pet, but he somehow managed to get out of his aquarium last week. I can't find him and I am heartbroken. I put his aquarium on its side on the floor with his water dish and heat rock.

Does anyone have any advice on how to find him? Or do you think he has gotten outside and is gone?

He could still be in the house but he could also be gone. If he is native to your area then at least you don't have the worry that the environment is not suitable for him. Have a look around the forum there are plenty of threads about lost snakes with ideas of how to catch them.

The best advice is to get rid of the heat rock, they are an antiquated idea and not safe to use.

Donnie: I live in Virginia, so he had apparently escaped from a previous owner when I found him. Thought I had to join before being allowed to traverse the forum - I will try to find more threads about lost snakes today (I did find directions on how to make a trap, which I will try). Thanks.

look at the compressers in the back of your fridge and freezer. they like the heat.

Re the heat rock - obviously I wouldn't put it IN the aquarium with the snake. I put it under the aquarium between blocks of wood of the same height and covered all with a thick towel. Then I put a 1-2 inch layer of Aspen snake bedding inside the aquarium with water dish, climbing tree, and Chesapecten fossil, along with a "cave" (half round of tree bark" which I put above the heat rock underneath. Snake spent most the time in the tree or the Chesapecten, but always went into the (slightly) warm cave to aid digestion after eating. Of course there's always the possibility of a malfunction which could cause it to overheat (which is why I checked it frequently), but that's a possibility with any heat source.

Going to make some snake traps today. He's got to be hungry if he's still in the house.

Welcome aboard! He in all likelihood hasn't strayed far. Just look in dark, tight places.
