View Full Version : Birth defect or what?
So I was looking at my Coastal, and I noticed on the left side of her mouth the skin is kind of weird? I have no idea what this could be. She seems perfectly healthy and everything though! I dunno. Help? :) one is a close up of her face with the side with the bump or whatever, another is just for fun (her "standing" in the grass behind my house:P )

that is not a birth defect.
could be a mouth abscess (reptile abscesses can be latent for long long periods of time), swelling from a foreign body/substrate stuck under the gums, a tooth infection etc.... (lots of options).
do you notice her rubbing that side of her face a lot?
If you have the means i'd consider getting her to a reptile vet who might have a better idea of how to fix it.

You have another thread for this.
This has happened to my ball before. I noticed a similar opening in the mouth and I checked it out. There was a small, slender piece of cypress mulch that was caught under a tooth. I got my trusty tweezers, cleaned them, and took the piece of mulch out. In a few days the snake's mouth looked completely normal. Before you spend a lot of money on a herp vet take a look for yourself; it could be a piece of substrate or a caught tooth. If it is a pussy or scabby area I would take it to the vet .
Smy, Franks. See I help. =]

Is it just me or does it seem like there's a bubble on her mose in that picture?

There was. it was a bacterial infection. It's been treated for and is almost completely healed now. :)
