A friend of mine got a pair of BPs as in January as a h/clown pair. They both came with RI, which has been treated and is gone, and they are eating normally.

They currently appear to be very healthy snakes except for something a little odd--their heads are shorter and wider than the norm, or so it appears. I've never seen this before myself. Any speculation as to what might have caused this would be of interest.

Not sure this will work, but I'll try to link to the photos:

If that doesn't work, my apologies . . . I'm still interested in your thoughts on what might have caused the extra width in the heads. He's wondering if there is that much variation in head shape & size, and I have never seen anything this different myself, but I thought getting the opinion of a broader population would be useful.

Thanks in advance.

Um they look like normal sized heads to me.

They really are not normal size/shape. I'm wondering if someone hybridized somewhere back in their line . . . or if the RIs they had could have caused the change . . . but how would the RI cause a physical difference in the heads??

They do look a little more angular. That's weird... I don't think an RI would change the shape of the skull. It's not like they're rotting. I assume the animals are related? Like same clutch or whatever?

They look normal to me.

Each ball python is going to look different, some have more angular heads where as some are more widened. One of my female when I got her as a baby has a fairly wide head but since then she has grown into her head size and it has lengthened in time as well.

How old are these guys? If they are still growing then their heads may still change a little bit like her:
