I just received my repti-racks cage today and it came with broken/separated panels. The person told me to use "liquid nails" to put the cage back together. I asked if aquarium silicone was okay and he specifically said "No, use liquid nails".

Is it safe for reptiles?

Also I have purchased other cages from them only a few days ago. Would you request a cancellation and look elsewhere?

Did they offer you any other solution or resolution about the broken pieces? If not I would request a refund as it is broken and cancel your order. Who wants to pay that kind of money for a brand new broken enclosure?

My OP is a little misleading. The panels aren't broken, but they are "broken" out of place which is why I also added " /separated". There are no cracks or breaks, only separations. Sorry.

I did a 5 minute research about it and I haven't found anything that says it's unsafe but I also haven't found anything that says it's safe... Is there a discernible smell after it's dried?

I really have no clue, this would be my first time using it. I also did a quick search and I am getting mixed reviews. Some people wrote they would never use it near their reptiles and that this substance "gasses" a little even after curing. Other reviews say that it's completely safe once dried.

This is why I asked if using silicone would be better but the representative of that company says liquid nails is the way to go. Wouldn't using silicone be better anyways? They use it to hold aquarium glass together for christ's sake.

If your cages are non-porous then aquarium silicon should have a fair bit of strength.

Aquariums are heavy and have to bare the weight of hundreds of pounds of water so I think you'll be good.

If they are porous why would it be weaker?

I'm going to research a little more into this product and if I can't confirm it's safe then I'm probably just going to go ahead and use the silicone.

I am requesting a cancellation for the rest of the order. I will probably get my enclosures from AP.

Liquid Nails comes in a variety of strengths and purposes. This site may help you to figure out if it's safe. They have a full section on the MSDS for each type. The low VOCs types would be safer with less gas out.

Thanks zoo nanny. It seems the one that the representative reccomended is a silicone based adhesive, so in that case I will just use the aquarium sealant that I have.

Be careful as many silicone contains formaldehyde.

Does this apply to 100% silicone rubber? The caulk I have does not give ingredients it just says " Aquarium sealant - harmless to fish"

Do reptiles die in aquariums sealed with it? I think not. So, you're golden...

Liquid nails is fine as long as you let it cure fully. I used it in my carpet enclosure build with no issues. I let it cure for a few days before my snake went in. Cured it is hard and smooth with no odour at all.

Which one did you use?

I have the " LN-700 White Project, multi-purpose " version.

I used the industrial adhesive in the black tube.

I'm just a little pissed. I had to silicone almost all the panels together when they should be welded together by the company. That is how they advertise their cages; to be welded together chemically.

If these panels were welded, shouldn't they have cracks instead of separations at the seams? These don't look welded to me.

You should be angry....anyways, If you decide to order AP cages, I believe they ship flat, and they screw into place with regular screws. Then you just use aquarium sealant around to seal the corners. Its pretty easy.

I can't order AP. Sucks.

I talked with them and they said they already purchased the materials for my orders. There is nothing I can do.

And to add to these complaints, after further inspection, I found a crack on the tracks for the sliding doors and an extra seperation on another panel so I just siliconed that again. And there is a big gap in between the sliding doors so the snake could possibly escape.

Basically I paid full price for a welded cage but I'm using one that is glued together.

Idk how you ordered but it doesn't matter if they ordered the materials or not. Thats bad customer service, and they should have to make it up to you somehow. If he doesn't and continues to have bad customer support, go to fauna and let everyone know so they don't make the same mistake (only do this after you are SURE he won't make it up to you, because they cannot remove the bad guy threads...)

Call them back and tear him a new one.

You should build your own man.

It's easy if you have at least some building experience. evenif you took woodshop in high school you could probably do it nicely.

It'll be much cheaper too.

Just tell him you want a refund. If he says no take it up with your credit card company.

Not sure if you have similar laws over there but if you order something online here and it is not fit for purpose or not as described then You have 27 days to return it (at the companies expense) and get a full refund.

They cannot force you to accept a product which does not match the description - i very much doubt the US doesnt have a law to cover this, its false advertising - but first I would check the description carefully, does it say that they are delivered as a finished product or as a flat pack?

if it was sold as a finished product and the seller is refusing to sort out the issue, then did you buy it on a credit card or debit card? if you bought it on a credit card, then contact the credit card company and explain the problem with the product and the seller, they will be able to persue the seller and arrange a refund; you should get the refund regardless of the sellers response, and then the credit card company will take legal action to recoup their loses

the same protection is not standard with debit cards unfortunetly, but worth contact your bank anyway just in case - Paypal have similar protection to credit card companies, if you used them

always use paypal or credit cards to make purchases online - then you are protected against sellers who dont want to play by the rules - but, check the description carefully first...
