A blue Northern Green Frog (Rana clamitans melanota) on my friend's FB.

Apparently it's a rare genetic mutation. I've only seen one once - when I was a kid - except the one I saw was only half blue.

I've seen the part blue ones too. But that looks photoshopped. I may be wrong ,

awsome color! There is one similar in London Zoo, although it has more black in the pattern, has large black circles with blue centres and blue outlines, looks quite spectacular, i might have a photo somewhere, wil see if i can dig it out when I'm on my PC

Interesting looking. Kind of looks like a Poison Dart Frog.

Just noticed it was a friend if yours that took the pic! Sorry it was late. I'm guessing you trust him enough not to have doctored the photo. In that case WOW I'm amazed.

Maybe if he'd stuck his hand in the pic for comparison . . . seriously, if that pic hasn't been photoshopped, the frog is beautiful. I'm not going to get into any argument about whether the pic has or hasn't been photoshopped, though. It could easily be real, just looking at the substrate, but what do I know?

Axanthic ? lol

This mutant trait does exist, I do not believe it was photoshopped. Very interesting find nonetheless.

He said this is the second one he's seen while working at the golf course.
As I said I have seen one when I was a young teen, and the blue half of it was that shade of blue. I don't believe he photoshopped it.
It does look a bit like a dark frog...Either way it's blue, and any animal that is blue is always appealing. This is a cool find!

Tell him to catch the next one he finds. If hes near you, you'll be able to go and get a good look at it and tell us. I can't even find a google picture to match that lol

Well, I have seen mud that shows hints of blue. Petroleum products from automotive vehicles gets on the streets, into the storm drains, flows off onto nearby ground, and reflects blues and sometimes purples and greens.
As the "mud" in the photo is really pretty gray and only shows hints of blue along with some hints of green that could be algal in origin, I'm not willing to bet that the picture is photoshopped. However, I'm not an expert at detecting photoshopping, either, so maybe someone who is can look at it more closely.

i know blue frogs exist, but in the OPs image, the substrate looks very blue, wheras in Formica's picture, we can see the reds, yellows, and greens in the background.
I know my smartphone has a photo-filter option to emphasize blue/eliminate reds, highlight yellows, black and white, etc. I'm not saying it isn't real, but i would like more pics with a diverse background before I'm convinced.

I asked him and he said that the colours are little off because it's his cell camera, but he assured me it was definitely a blue frog

Starbuck said, in the OPs image, the substrate looks very blue, wheras in Formica's picture, we can see the reds, yellows, and greens in the background.
I think some of the coloration may have to do with individual computer monitors. I see GRAY substrate in the OPs image, with only a very few, very slight hints of blue, and I've gone back to look at it very closely. I would not characterize the substrate as "very" blue at all. In Formica's image, I see one faint streak of red, very little yellow, and green moss on the substrate. I'll bet our different monitors are reproducing the colors enough differently to affect our ability to make an accurate assessment of the OPs photo adversely.

ok EVERYONE. Let's print it out and see what colour it actually is!
Everyone use CMYK, 300 dpi.
Set your printer on "Best Photo"
LOL.

My theory is that the frog was slightly blueish (not that intense) and they used that function on phones to make the colors more vibrant. If you google axanthic frog I think theres a few pics of something similar and it makes sense...Axanthic Turns green to blue does it not?

Im almost certain the picture is photoshopped. the colors are too even and flat throughout the frog. the eardrums on the ones u just posted are browner and darker than the rest of the frog. Whatever they are they stand out in colour. the first picture though everything is the same colour. Its eyes are also the exact same shade of blue. its just too fake looking to me.

I am thinking that it was photoshopped or there was a filter applied. I am willing to accept that I may be wrong. However, look just to the right of the right leg. The leaf appears purple almost to me.
