Somebody releases a 4-foot python and plans to run it over with a lawnmower? Since that didn't work, neighbors are now arming themselves? :O_o:
I guess it is Ohio, after all. I shouldn't be surprised.
Follow this link for local news coverage. (http://www.nbc4i.com/story/22685736/officials-hunt-for-python-released-in-mobile-home-park)

Hey... I was born in Ohio. *cries*.
But that story is pathetic. And I agree with one of the comments... just how small are the kids and animals in question?
And I hate when people choose to protect cute/cuddly animals only :/ I've heard countless stories on people calling the SPCA for reptiles and no one cares...

I live in Ohio...the kids are toddlers. No way that the snake poses any danger. Looks like a trailer park in the woods. The snake is probably busy stalking rodents if you asked me.
Even more disturbing. The neighbors are arming themselves to shoot the snake. I'd be more afraid of them at this point.

I don't even know what to say regarding something so stupid and hanus as this . . . . . .
I mean really, how many different, easy option did the owner have with selling or giving away the animal.

True. And that was meant as a joke. ;) Some places in Ohio are nice... others...
Poor snake..

This is pretty much the stupidest article I've read in a long time. It makes me angry that people are ignorant enough to think that a 4 foot snake of any species (minus the venomous) poses a threat to humans. It's completely asinine.
Another idiot progresses the "anti-snake" people one more step. Why do people like this buy a snake in the first place?

Hey, I know people who literally think a two-inch snake can eat a full-grown man. No joke. I've read some questionable stuff concerning other animals, too. Apparently some guy's Chow dog was mistaken as a coyote - yes, a coyote - and one of the neighbors stole the dog, took it to the pound, and it was put down because, all because someone somehow thought it was a coyote.
But, yeah...way too big of a deal for a snake that size. I mean, change all your plans over a 4.5ft python? The media blows up so many stories out of proportion, I really wonder how people can even take them seriously any more.

sod the medias response, its predictible and tedious, what I want to know is what kind sick person plans to kill an animal with a lawnmower?? I hope law enforcement are dealing with them the way they ought to be dealt with

For all you people who keep saying it's only a "4-foot python" and not to worry you don't realize it's a four and HALF foot python. World of difference. Lock the doors! Lock up your children and other pets! Better not swim a pool! Lakes are WAAAY safer!!!

Not sure if you all watched the video. The article is pretty stupid, but the video makes you wonder if snakes are smarter than humans.

Lol haha I just watched it. I can't.
According to the logic oozing in the video and article:
"Welp can't afford to feed my kid anymore so I better run it over with a lawn mower".

Oh snap. Forgot that half a foot. It is *officially* a man eater.

Its probably just a BP, but of course they show a picture of a Burm. They probably have kingsnakes over 4 feet all over the place there, but nobody ever worries about them even though they can survive the winters whereas a python won't.

In that part of Ohio my bet would be on black rat snakes, which grow to a very decent size and are quite common.
Nevermind that you could probably find a copperhead under one of those trailers if you looked hard enough. They don't seem to mind a human presence all that much and the space under a trailer is near perfect for them.

No you don't, you would need eye bleach afterward.
Since local LE requested help, DH went ahead and called. Additional info:
- If the snake is caught alive the authorities are willing to rehome it and not kill it.
- Based on the description the snake is a normal ball python.
- As of yesterday the authorities hadn't been offered help or even a contact from anyone in the local herp network.
- Ever seen "Faces of Meth"? This woman belongs on the list. Cop described her as scary.
My guess is that they'll never find it while the weather is warm, and it will either perish this winter or find its way into a trailer once the weather starts getting cooler.
