Hi im new to the snake community and i would like to purchase my first boa. Was looking for a Brazilian Rainbow Boa then found one in a local pet store. Through my research of the rainbow boa i found many beautiful pictures of them. The one i came across in the pet store looked completely opposite from what i thought i would see. The guy told me its rainbow color will come eventually but i had my suspicion if this is even a Brazilian Rainbow Boa. So can anybody here help me identify the species of this snake? Thanks.
Sorry if the pictures are not enough.

Colombians are still a really cool snake, just not nearly as colorful.

I think the problems with columbians is that they share the same name. People here about brazilian RAINBOW boas, and then they see a columbian and its like the ugly adopted son who doesn't fit in. Its like if you had a Green tree python with blues and greens, and then a garden phase ATB which was also called a Green tree python....
It should just be the Columbian Brown Boa or something :P thats my take on why people don't like them as much

It still has the iridescence which makes it a rainbow boa. Also, it is stile in the epicrates genus I believe.

They can be in the same family and have different names, its not a big deal as long as the scientific name is the same, the common name can be whatever.
Also, retics, d'alberts, sunbeams, timors, and whatever else have iridescence too. Thats irrelevant imo

Luckily i didnt get it today then. But i might still end up buying it. He offered me the snake as a brazilian rainbow boa for $120. How much do think it should go for now since its a colombian rainbow boa?

There is nothing that shimmers like the rainbow boa. My BCI shimmer under direct light and its something that you can see but doesn't really pop. My Brazilians shimmer in general lol doesn't matter if the light is across the room, out the window or right above them and its all of them not just a random strip caught in the right angle.

They are live born.
CRB are beautiful in their own right. Just look at this face. Actually CRB tend to look more like there big cousins the Anacondas.

Sunbeams are by far a nicer iridescent.
In central Florida I've seen quite a few CRBs in pet stores of late. They're priced between $40 and $70 around here. Not so many BRBs though. Those seem to be $100+ around here.

Those must be nice pet stores, the ones here either suck or are super expensive. :(

Bahahaha I would say right out of the egg. :-/ Technically they still grow inside of an egg ....just not one that was laid, right?
Anyways, there are a few competitors when it comes it iridescence, rainbows aren't in their own league.

Shouldn't the OP be a little angry? I'd go down to the store and ask why they lied.

I don't think he purchased it yet, and maybe the employee didn't know. Wouldn't be the first time, and its definitely not the first time they lie for a sale lol.

Wow, their faces DO look a lot like an anaconda's!

Its a mixed bag. Some of the stores around here are great.... some, not so much. There's a few here locally that will sell anything they can get from a local breeder or wholesaler cheap, even if they haven't got a clue what it even is (had some tegus that were labeled as 'monitor lizards' in one of them) or how to take care of it. Sad to see those, I know they must be able to sucker some poor fool in to buying things, because they're still in business.

Brazilians typically go for $150-250 for babies. You can find specimens at shows for as low as $100, but they are usually lower-end, brownish animals and/or offered by people breeding them as a sideline, and therefore not providing the ongoing nuanced support that a private specialist can. On the flip side, top picks from top breeders can command as much as $350 or $400....one breeder I know even sold a baby for $500 last year!
As for Colombians, the real topic here...$75 to $125 sounds about right. As with Brazilians, you can find them at shows for less...and presumably really top ones will go for more.
