Oh well, now I'm bummed out :O_o:. I thought I had asked all the right questions and covered all my bases. Turns out the female MBK I ordered today has been fed live since she was hatched in April. I just assumed most breeders were feeding f/t. Any thoughts on how difficult it is to transition them to f/t? I hope it's not too hard.

First, be glad it's a king snake not a ball python.

Second, it probably won't be an issue. My MBK is a garbage gut who will hit anything that smells like food, whether it's dead, alive, mouse, rat, etc.

Thanks bcr, I really hope it's no big deal. They tell me she ate yesterday and might be going into shed. I won't handle or try to feed her for a week or so. Wish me well.

They are simply VERY VERY opportunist eaters and not very fussy. :)

But you are correct, they will transfer to F/Ts easy.

Yep, when I bought mine it was fed on live. You just have to get some tongs and shake it in front of them so they think it is alive and should have no problem with the switch

Awesome, I feel a lot better now. Thanks everybody. Cant wait to post some pics of my new Queen-King. Still not sure what I'm gonna name her yet though.

I have given my king mice and rats and I honestly think he is to dumb to know it's dead already ;) Brutal chow hound so I also agree it should notbe a problem .

When I bought my milk snake, I bought him/her knowing that it had only been fed live. The store owner 'claimed' he had tried very, very hard to get it to eat frozen, but it never took.

When I got it home, After having it for 2 weeks I tried to feed it, using a live mouse. It didn't even try to take it. After trying this again for the next 2-3 weeks (live) and failing I finally attempted to feed it frozen knowing it probably would not take it, but at my wits end. The snake ate the frozen mouse with out any hesitation. GO figure xP
