Hi Jeremy, welcome to the group:)
As for substartes, you can try Aspen shavings. They are by far the most appropriate "natural" substrate. Soft woods such as Cedar and even Spruce and Pine have been known to cause respritory problems and sometimes serious ones.
For the longest time, I kept my ball pythons on news paper. It's not the best looking substarte, but you can't beat the price;)
I'm sure you'll love it here. See you around:)
Welcome Jeremy!
I agree with aspen shavings, since all my snakes have no problem with it at all.

WELCOME 2 ssnakess :) :)
Welcome Jrx7.
For substrate I would suggest cypress mulch or coconut. Aspen shavings are a little dry and you will have difficulty keeping humidity up.
Welcome to sSnakeSs.com! :) The best place to ask question regarding Ball Pythons is in the Python Regius Forum. Be sure to stop by our *new* HOWTO forum as well ;)

Welcome. I keep my ball python on Reptibark, which is aspen chips, I think.
