Hey all,

I got a call that a female juvenille MBK has become available and can ship out today. I was wondering if in the interest of space I could keep a juvenile MBK in a critter keeper for about a year until I move. I could put in another 20-40 gal tank but my 2 bdrm. apt is getting a little cramped. I was hoping to put the critter keeper on top of Caesar's 40 gal. tank for now. Of course I'll have hides, a water dish and a uth. Any thoughts? Need some input fast. Thanks.

How big is this critter keeper?

The critter keeper is about 5 gal.. I'm thinking I might just suck it up and but the 40 gal tank and be done with it.

When owning a snake you decide that you want another they need to be kept separate for quarantine (different rooms) for at least 3 months.

If you don't have the room don't buy the snake.

I'm with Mark. Don't buy him till your ready for his adult enclosure and everything he will need. And you have room for quarantine. My 1 bedroom apartment luckily is completely empty :D computer desk, matress, snake rack and 2 rubbermaids and It still feels completely empty in here :P

I've got the room, just have to move a few things around. Going to get the 40 gal and all the accessories on my lunch hour. Now to think of a name for the new girl. The new snake needs to be kept "completely" away from Caesar for at least 3 months? I don't plan on them making any physical contact but didn't know they couldn't even be in the same room at the same time.

It's true I quarantine my snakes for 6 months but if I notice a problem that 6 months starts again there is a good write up on here somewhere I see if I can find it for you.

Good choice, I only did 2 months but others are probably right.

Yeah, everything was going so well. I went and bought my tank and supplies on lunch. I was super happy to get my new snake and then I find out she's been eating live since she was hatched in April. I hope it's not a difficult transition to get her on f/t.

Only time will tell every snake is different just be consistent if you want to feed F/T then that's what you offer. If it was my snake I would leave it alone for a week then offer food if it won't strike just leave the F/T mice/rat in the enclosure for 12 hours, still there remove and bin try next again week, so on so on.

yeah Mark, that's the plan. I won't handle her or offer her food for a week or so. They say she ate yesterday and appears to be going into shed. I may even wait until after she sheds and hope she's hungry enough to take the f/t prey.
