Not entirely sure if this should go in the enclosure forum or not, but I was wondering about what aquatic plants would be safe for carpets? I'm going to be building a naturalistic viv for my IJ, and intend on adding a water feature. It will be filtered, and the cage will be ventilated, all that jazz, but I'm curious as to if any particular plants would be better, and which ones I should avoid.

Thanks,
-Steve

I have a lot of java fern and even some pothos and arrow head plants(not water plants) in my chinese fire bellied newt tank. I just stick stems of the pothos and arrow heads in and they live for a good while. I imagine if the newts can live for years with these plants, your snake would do OK as well. Another good water plant is the Amazon sword. They do well.

Well, my fish live fine with the plants I have in their tank, some of them even eat bits of the leaves.

Giant Valisneria
Cryptocoryne wendtii
Cryptocoryne willisi
Lotus lily

Remember you have to have proper lighting for underwater plants to live.
