View Full Version : Feeder Source

Looking around I see a lot of mail order sources for frozen feeder mice. Which is what I'd likely as it's probably cheaper than my local Petsmart (all I have within a reasonable distance, and local reptile shows only pass through once maybe twice a year from what I can tell).

Can anyone recommend reliable sources?

i buy about 6 months worth of feeders at a time from expos.

Shipping is rediculously expensive, unless you have a huge collection to feed, or can split the shipping costs with other snake owners. ive been able to find a few local mice/rat breeders who will sell me f/t without the cost of shipping, but i found them at expos :P

I hear good things about South Florida Rodents and plan to buy from them next time as long as I don't hear any horror stories about them. :P And since you're in SC you get free shipping if you get over $100.

However there are tons of feeder places and there are probably lots of good ones :)

I agree, unless your buying in huge amounts. The shipping is almost half the cost....Look for someone local who can give you a steady supply.

I disagree. Shipping can be 2x price of your order and still be cheaper per rodent vs what's locally available to you. When I made my first order that was almost the case for me and I was still comming in about .50 cheaper per rodent. I think the better advice when considering this option is to shop around and compare, then just do the math. This will give you a clear answer to your question. You know what your paying now so it won't take you but a few mins to know for sure.

I have found that ordering 600-1000 feeders at once breaks up the shipping to an acceptable amount.

But I also keep monitors, so the food gets ate up fast!

I would do what StarBuck does and buy them from the Reptile Shows if they sell feeders there and buy a lot! I'm lucky I have a Pet Supplies Plus near me and I get my mice from them for a dollar frozen or $1.18 live! I'm tempted to buy from BHB Reptiles, they have 50 frozen pinkies for $12.50 and I don't have to worry about shipping since I'm right down the road but I'm sure my snakes won't be eating pinkies for a year! Lol

I agree with shopping around and doing the math. When I compared prices between my local supply, reptile show, and an online source, I ended up going with the online source. Even with shipping the cost was around $.75 cheaper per rat.

I was paying £30 a month for feeders from my local shop, was recommended an online supplier by Shaunyboy and started paying £45 for THREE months worth of feeders.

You guys are lucky you have a lot of expos around you. There's only one per year in Las Vegas and it pretty much sucks. Local places here aren't cheap either, even with discounts. To top it off, I may be moving to WA State soon, and the area I'll be in doesn't really have any shops. So, its looking like online ordering is in my future.
