freedom falls

i recently went to freedom falls and snapped some pics. the falls are 30 foot high and 50 foot wide tho the water does not flow over the full 50 foot of the fall.
i been slacking on on posting them so tonight i finally got them up so here they are

and a something....i heard they use to smelt stuff in it but i do not know if its true. in any case nature is beginning to take it back

Lord of the rings? lol A specific area in the movie comes to mind with that brick structure and woods.

That looks like an iron furnace, I saw something similar on a trip to land between the lakes in Kentucky. Did you notice any funny colored smooth rocks anywhere around it? unnatural looking blues? Usually the slag heap isn't far from the furnace. Those things are awesome.

i didn't but mainly because i was not looking for them but i do plan to go back soon but furnace does make sense i seen what appeared to be a cooling system maybe ? it was long slabs of rock running to the creek with a trench in it almost 3-4 foot deep i'll look i believe i took pics of it

Look at these. I think there was a building of some sort built around these as well, this is just whats left.

i'm gonna say you nailed it on furnace. i don't know if its a iron furnace like the ones you seen but it is definitely a furnace. next time i go out there i will look for the slag heap. i would love to get pics of it. thanks for the info. Do you have lots of them there? this is the only one i know of here.

There are 17 furnaces in that area. We went camping there a couple of times, I really love historical sites. Other than the furnaces there is Fort Henry perched on the upper Tennessee river to protect against union gunboats , a major civil war battle was fought there. There is also an eagle nesting area that is pretty cool and some other things. That whole area is called land between the lakes. It's a few Hours from where I live.

wow that sounds amazing! 17 furnaces in that area next time you go i would love to see some more pics if possible. sounds like a place that's deep historic roots
